The Great Wall of China

The Great Wall was built during the Ming Dynasty in order to protect China from raids by the mogols and Turkic tribes. The wall stretches over 6,350 km. The government ordered people to work on the wall and the workers were under perpetual danger. Many people died during its construction. It was declared a World Heritage Site in 1987. More can be read about it by just Googling "Great Wall of China". Photo by Alida Posted by Picasa
